If you don't have Cute FTP installed on your computer, you can follow the directions in our FAQ to download and install CuteFTP first.
1) If you're not already running CuteFTP, select Start - Programs (or All Programs) - GlobalSCAPE - Cute FTP - Cute FTP . Cute FTP should then open.

2) If you see the CuteFTP connection wizard, you can skip to Step 4. If you instead see the Site Settings dialog box (pictured below), click the Exit button or the close box in the upper right hand corner to close the Site Settings window.

3) Pull down the File menu and select Connection Wizard... to open the connection wizard.

4) First, the wizard will ask you to enter an informal name to help you identify your settings. Generally, you can use something along the lines of "digital.forest Server." If your account includes space on multiple servers (for example, a web server and a database server), you will want to use a name that helps you identify each part of the account uniquely (for example, "digital.forest Database Server"). Click Next> to continue.

5) You'll then be asked to enter the host address of the FTP server. The host address is the name of your web or database server from your setup instructions, and will generally be in the format servername.forest.net. Enter the server name and then click Next>

6) In the next screen, you'll be asked to enter the name and password for your server. Enter the user name and password listed in your setup instructions. Be sure to leave the "Anonymous Login" checkbox unchecked. You can check the "Mask password" box for extra securtiy. When you've finished entering your username and password, click Next> again.

7) Optionally, you can specify a "local folder" that CuteFTP can automatically display when you connect to our FTP site. If you select the folder containing your web files on your local computer as the "local folder," you won't have to worry about navigating to that folder every time you connect to our FTP server to upload your files.
If you haven't yet created a folder for your web site and/or databases on your computer, now would be a good time to pop back to your deskop and create a folder ("My Web Site," for example) somewhere easy to find, like your Desktop or C: drive.
If you have your web site/databases in a folder on your hard drive and want to select it, click Browse.. to open a file selection dialog box (if you don't know where the folder is located or don't want to select one right now, just click Next> and continue to step 9.

8) In the Browse For Folder dialog that appears, navigate to the folder on your hard drive containing your web files or databases.

9) That's it! Leave both of the checkboxes unchecked and click Finish to complete the wizard.

You can now continue to Uploading Files With CuteFTP
