There can be a variety of reasons that a domain is not visible to the rest of the world (or just you.) They include:
- The root nameservers have not been updated yet. The root nameservers are updated at 7 PM, EST. If your domain is processed after this time, it will be another 24 hours before it appears in the root nameservers.
- DNS propagation delays due to previously cached information. In order to decrease load on DNS servers, DNS information is cached, or stored on DNS servers after they have done lookups for domains that they are not responsible for. The domain files on the primary server determine how long the files should be cached before looking for new information. digital.forest has this value set to be 24 hours. However, some DNS administrators artificially increase the amount of time their DNS servers will hold onto information. In some cases, this can be several days or even weeks. Generally, DNS changes are fully propagated in about seven days.
- Your previous ISP has not removed the domain from their server. If your dial up ISP was previously hosting your domain and have not removed it from their DNS files, it will tell all machines that look to it for DNS queries inaccurate information. It is always best to ask your previous DNS provider to remove the domain from their servers once the domain is transferred.
- digital.forest has made a typo in the DNS files. Please submit a ticket if you suspect this is the case.
