On Saturday, October 30th beginning at 22:00 hrs PST we will perform several software updates on souari.forest.net and silverpine.forest.net. We anticipate this outage to last approximately four to six hours.

The updates include the base operating system and several core components. These are mostly minor code revisions and should not cause any significant impact beyond the maintenance window.

We will also be upgrading PHP from version 5.2.x to version 5.3.0. This is a more significant upgrade. There are a number of important changes in this version of PHP, which are detailed here:

It would also be wise to check the "Deprecated Features" page:

Deprecated features will still function, but will be removed in a future release.

If you wrote your PHP code yourself, please verify that it will be compatible with the new 5.3.x release. If you use PHP code written by somebody else, please contact the appropriate support channel for the software and verify that it is compatible with 5.3.x.

We will publish an upgrade schedule for the servers closer to the actual work date.

silverpine.forest.net will be taken offline between 8 and 8:30 PM tonight for essential system maintenance. We expect the downtime to be less than 30 minutes.

Silverpine issues have been resolved. All sites hosted on Silverpine should now be operational.

We are currently experiencing some issues with some hosting accounts on Silverpine. If your site is down and you know it is hosted on Silverpine, we are aware of the issue and are working toward resolution.

silverpine.forest.net is again having an issue with one of its hard drives..because the drive module having problems is brand new, we suspect there is a problem with the machine's RAID controller. We will be replacing the hardware as soon as possible and will not use the suspect drive bay until then.

We have brought the server back up, but some home directories needed to be restored from backup. If you have uploaded any files since 2:00 AM PST today, you may need to re-upload.
