digital.forest Network Upgrade Increases Performance

Tuesday July 18, 2000

digital.forest, a Bothell, Washington-based database and application host, recently completed a substantial network upgrade. The most significant addition is an OC-12 fiber backbone capable of pushing 622 Mbps (Megabits per second), abundantly expanding the company's network capacity. "OC-12 gives our clients the best possible performance," says company President and CTO Chris Kilbourn, "and it gives them, and us, room to grow."

The company is experiencing dramatic growth. "We're committed to staying ahead of the curve, adding services, equipment and even square footage as needed," says Kilbourn. The company is currently expanding its facilities by an additional 5,000 square feet. Due to be completed by the end of August, other facilities improvements include the addition of a new generator that will provide a failsafe power supply in the event of a major power outage. "We currently have battery back-up, which has always been sufficient. Even though we may never need the generator," says Kilbourn, "our clients hosting mission critical applications will appreciate the added reliability."

digital.forest continues to manage a network and facility of outstanding efficiency and stability. In addition to a BGP4, multi-homed, redundant network, the company maintains connections through the three largest Internet transit providers in the world (UUnet, Sprint, and Cable and Wireless), as well as redundant T1 connections including routes to the Seattle Internet Exchange. Other precautions include earthquake reinforced server racks, backup power, and advanced bandwidth management and monitoring.

Founded in 1994, digital.forest is a premier database and application hosting company serving small and medium-sized businesses and corporate workgroups around the globe. The company is noted for its responsive technical support and expertise deploying, maintaining, and optimizing Web-enabled databases and applications.
